5 Lessons That We Can Must Learn From The Life of 'Allama Iqbal'

Reading Bang- e- Dara, Kuliyat- e- Iqbal and Shikwa and Jawab- e -shikwa is the best thing that has ever happened to my life. There are so many great lessons I have learned from his literature and from his life. Being known for his poetry, Allama Iqbal was also a great philosopher and an active politician. He is one of the most salient figures of Urdu literary with huge contributions in both Urdu, Persian and English languages to his name. In his political contributions, he is the one who initiated the Pakistan Movement together with other prominent personalities of that time including Muhammad Ali Jinnah who then followed his dream and made it come true on the 14th of August 1947.

As Iqbal day is around the corner, I had this urge to write something about Allama Iqbal and the lessons we can learn from his life. I therefore made a list of five most important lessons that can have a great impact on one’s life.

1. Live Your Dream

Pakistan was Allama Iqbal’s biggest dream. Although, he was not alive at the time of independence but Pakistan is an example of true passion and dedication of Allama Iqbal. He was the one who understands the significance of an independent state. Live your dreams by setting your goals and setting your priorities. The thing is how you’re going to succeed and shake the world with your abilities. Just live your dreams to the fullest!

2. Have Faith and Never Lose Hope

Even when things looked dark, Allama Iqbal always had faith that things would work out one day. Faith kept him going and gave him an opportunity to make the best out of his poetry. He wrote poems to spread his message of self awareness and the need of separate home land. He never lost hope. And so do you, no matter how bad things are going in your life, don’t ever give up. Don’t ever lose hope. As long as you keep yourself going, you will definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel.

3. Lead by Example

One of the most important lessons one can learn from Allama Iqbal’s life is to lead by example. If you want to be a role model, or a person that everyone else looks up to and wants to be like, be like Allama Iqbal. He is the one everyone looks up to; he has all the characteristics of a true leader. You cannot hope to inspire others if you do not lead an exemplary life yourself.

4. Believe in yourself

Allama Iqbal was the one who started Pakistan Movement, and succeeded in his passion because he believed in himself. He knew what he dreamt about will be reality one day in the name of Pakistan. If you don’t believe that you are capable of doing something chances are that nobody will believe you too.  People treat you on what you think about yourself, how you treat yourself and how you act and behave in difficult situations.

5. Don’t take anything for granted

Knowing the significance of a separate homeland for Muslims, Allama Iqbal fought for it until his last breath. Pakistan appeared on the map because of the dedication and hard work and thousands of sacrificed lives. We shouldn’t take this country for granted; we shouldn’t take our lives for granted. We often don’t appreciate what we have until it’s gone. This is a hard lesson to learn, but it may be the most important of all. Pakistan is one of the biggest blessings we have in our lives, we should be thankful to Allah SWT and the people who are behind the creation of this beautiful country!
